Fuzzy understanding of the term “angels” “her wings” and “his wings”.
Introduction: There are two beings termed messengers in Scripture. Both are written as “angels” the English word often used for “messenger”. We shall investigate the phrase “angel of mercy and her wings” as well the the “Angel of the Lord and his wings”.
EGW: “Every time you refuse to listen to the message of mercy, you strengthen yourself in unbelief. Every time you fail to open the door of your heart to Christ, you become more and more unwilling to listen to the voice of Him that speaketh. You diminish your chance of responding to the last appeal of mercy. Let it not be written of you, as of ancient Israel, “Ephraim is joined to idols; let him alone.” Hosea 4:17. Let not Christ weep over you as He wept over Jerusalem, saying, “How often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.” Luke 13:34, 35.
EGW: “We are living in a time when the last message of mercy, the last invitation, is sounding to the children of men. The command, “Go out into the highways and hedges,” is reaching its final fulfillment. To every soul Christ's invitation will be given. The messengers are saying, “Come; for all things are now ready.” Heavenly angels are still working in co-operation with human agencies. The Holy Spirit is presenting every inducement to constrain you to come. Christ is watching for some sign that will betoken the removing of the bolts and the opening of the door of your heart for His entrance. Angels are waiting to bear the tidings to heaven that another lost sinner has been found. The hosts of heaven are waiting, ready to strike their harps and to sing a song of rejoicing that another soul has accepted the invitation to the gospel feast.
EGW: “In bringing forth Israel from Egypt, the Lord again manifested His power and His mercy. His wonderful works in their deliverance from bondage and His dealings with them in their travels through the wilderness were not for their benefit alone. These were to be as an object lesson to the surrounding nations. The Lord revealed Himself as a God above all human authority and greatness. The signs and wonders He wrought in behalf of His people showed His power over nature and over the greatest of those who worshiped nature. God went through the proud land of Egypt as He will go through the earth in the last days. With fire and tempest, earthquake and death, the great I AM redeemed His people. He took them out of the land of bondage. He led them through the “great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought.” Deuteronomy 8:15. He brought them forth water out of “the rock of flint,” and fed them with “the corn of heaven.” Psalm 78:24. “For,” said Moses, “the Lord's portion is His people; Jacob is the lot of His inheritance. He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; He led him about, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye. As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: so the Lord alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him.” Deuteronomy 32:9-12. Thus He brought them unto Himself, that they might dwell as under the shadow of the Most High.
ROB: Notice Ellen White mentions all three members of Elohiym power, the eagle and her wings, the YHWH-Lord Jesus and the shadow of the Most High Father. The word “alone” here Jeff Benner sees as separated from the family home, ie Jesus and the Holy Spirit were with Israel, the Father’s direct presence was like a shadow of His power.
EGW: “Christ was the leader of the children of Israel in their wilderness wanderings. Enshrouded in the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night, He led and guided them. He preserved them from the perils of the wilderness, He brought them into the land of promise, and in the sight of all the nations that acknowledged not God He established Israel as His own chosen possession, the Lord's vineyard.
God desired to bring all peoples under His merciful rule. He desired that the earth should be filled with joy and peace. He created man for happiness, and He longs to fill human hearts with the peace of heaven. He desires that the families below shall be a symbol of the great family above.
ROB: Some say the great family above refers to a” trinity of three masculine members of GOD with angels nearest Him”, whatever that means. And so using fancy terms like metaphors we do violence upon simple poetry pictures and similes. Hence we whittle away Bible pictures of similes and parallels.
EGW: “Jerusalem had been the child of His care, and as a tender father mourns over a wayward son, so Jesus wept over the beloved city. How can I give thee up? How can I see thee devoted to destruction? Must I let thee go to fill up the cup of thine iniquity? One soul is of such value that, in comparison with it, worlds sink into insignificance; but here was a whole nation to be lost. When the fast westering sun should pass from sight in the heavens, Jerusalem's day of grace would be ended. While the procession was halting on the brow of Olivet, it was not yet too late for Jerusalem to repent. The angel of mercy was then folding her wings to step down from the golden throne to give place to justice and swift-coming judgment. But Christ's great heart of love still pleaded for Jerusalem, that had scorned His mercies, despised His warnings, and was about to imbrue her hands in His blood. If Jerusalem would but repent, it was not yet too late. While the last rays of the setting sun were lingering on temple, tower, and pinnacle, would not some good angel lead her to the Saviour's love, and avert her doom? Beautiful and unholy city, that had stoned the prophets, that had rejected the Son of God, that was locking herself by her impenitence in fetters of bondage,—her day of mercy was almost spent!
ROB: Question: Are their angels who sit on golden thrones near Elohiym power and are also capable of justice and swift-coming judgement?
Notice the term is “angel of mercy with her wings” . If the identity of this supposed cherub was left to doubt the message could have left off the “her wings” and thus we would not know which torah verse this comes from.
Here is the only Bible verse with “her wings”
Ho 4:19 The wind hath bound her up in her wings,
Why does the King James translate “wind” with “her wings”?
EGW: “ A terrible conflict is before us. We are nearing the battle of the great day of God Almighty. That which has been held in control is to be let loose. The angel of mercy is folding her wings, preparing to step down from the throne and leave the world to the control of Satan. The principalities and powers of earth are in bitter revolt against the God of heaven. They are filled with hatred against those who serve Him, and soon, very soon, will be fought the last great battle between good and evil. The earth is to be the battle field—the scene of the final contest and the final victory. Here, where for so long Satan has led men against God, rebellion is to be forever suppressed.—The Review and Herald, May 13, 1902.
ROB: Where is this verse :"day of God Almighty"
Re 16:14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
The Hebrew words behind this scroll for God Almighty is “Elohiym Shadday”
Where is this last conflict also paralleled to a former conflict, for you see readers, GOD uses poetry pictures and parallels all the time, in case we cannot fathom the phrases and messages:
Ex 6:3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.
4 And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers.
5 And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.
This former conflict was also a battle for the Lord over the salvation of Israel, but notice the named Divine Beings in verse 3. They are “el shaddai” and “YHWH Lord Jesus” written as Jehovah.
Ex 12:23 For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
Strange that two beings are mentioned here, YHWH and the destroyer pass over the houses smiting people. Who is the destroyer?
De 9:12 And the LORD said unto me, Arise, get thee down quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten image.
People destroy themselves when they depart from the way of faith in God.
De 31:29 For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you;
People destroy themselves when they depart from the way of faith in God.
De 32:5 They have corrupted themselves,
“Corrupted” is the same Hebrew word meaning “destroyer”
Jer 15:6 Thou hast forsaken me, saith the LORD, thou art gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am weary with repenting.
Notice GOD hates cheap grace, a term we have invented today.
Jer 51:1 ¶ Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the midst of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind;
Notice the term “destroying wind” is the Hebrew word for “Holy Spirit” who functions as a medium, that can make whirlwinds of destruction, or take away the breath of life from your living.
In the last days we are familiar with the term “let the four winds go” meaning the whole world is plunged into chaos because the Holy Spirit power is withdrawn from sustaining earth.
Re 7:1 ¶ And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.
Notice these comments from our Hebrew English translator:-
EGW: “The battles waging between the two armies are as real as those fought by the armies of this world, and on the issue of the spiritual conflict eternal destinies depend.—Prophets and Kings, 176 (c. 1914).
All the World Will Be Gathered on One Side or the Other
EGW: “All the world will be on one side or the other of the question. The battle of Armageddon will be fought. And that day must find none of us sleeping. Wide awake we must be, as wise virgins having oil in our vessels with our lamps. The power of the Holy Ghost must be upon us and the Captain of the Lord's host will stand at the head of the angels of heaven to direct the battle.—Selected Messages 3:426 (1890).
ROB: “If YHWH passed over the houses during the first passover conflict bringing salvation with him, the Holy Spirit functioned as a destroyer, as the wicked choose to destroy themselves, notice the messages here...
I get the impression the Holy Spirit may be the helper for Jesus in this battle with angels standing to do battle against fallen angels on earth and her last days of conflict. This would make the Holy Spirit function as a “messenger of mercy” with her wings, folded up, allowing destroying to come.
EGW: “When the angel of mercy folds her wings and departs Satan will do the evil deeds he has long wished to do. Storm and tempest, war and bloodshed—in these things he delights, and thus he gathers in his harvest. And so completely will men be deceived by him that they will declare that these calamities are the result of the desecration of the first day of the week. From the pulpits of the popular churches will be heard the statement that the world is being punished because Sunday is not honored as it should be.—The Review and Herald, September 17, 1901.
EGW: “It will be urged that the few who stand in opposition to an institution of the church and a law of the state, ought not to be tolerated; that it is better for them to suffer than for whole nations to be thrown into confusion and lawlessness. The same argument eighteen hundred years ago was brought against Christ by the “rulers of the people”.... This argument will appear conclusive.—The Great Controversy, 615 (1911).
Death for All Who Do Not Honor Sunday
A decree went forth to slay the saints, which caused them to cry day and night for deliverance.—Early Writings, 36, 37 (1851).
As Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon issued a decree that all who would not bow down and worship this image should be killed, so a proclamation will be made that all who will not reverence the Sunday institution will be punished with imprisonment and death.... Let all read carefully the thirteenth chapter of Revelation, for it concerns every human agent, great and small.—
ROB: Where does Scripture speak of Sunday law and a power enforcing Sunday laws in the Scriptures?
Hab 1:6 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.
7 They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.
8 Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.
Rob : This word “eagle” is the same word used as the simile to describe the Holy Spirit in Deuteronomy 32. It is a simile, the Babylon power fly as the ‘eagle’. In fact the Scriptures use the term “dysfunctional medium” to refer to cases where wicked ones do their work opposing God.
The Opposer also uses faith and a medium to oppose God and establish his own powers of self upon the earth, a faithless concept concerning God where people have mental assent only, and thus they lack God’s powers in their lives, meaning there is no works of God in their so called faith.
Hab 1:11 Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his god "eloah".
The idea of imputing power unto “eloah” is a Hebrew word for “pagan father god” or the “Heavenly Father” depending upon whom the word is used to reference which elohiym power, for there are false elohiym powers on the earth. So the Babylons have faith in their false father god. Do we have an extremely rich religious power with a father god on earth, where people impute faithful power unto him? The term Babylon means to some “gateway to heaven” and to God “gate of confusion”.
Which day of worship was attributed to this Babylonian father god?
Eze 8:16 And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD'S house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.
Sadly some among the Jews worshiped YHWH with abomination. They placed their backs to the Holy of Holies and worshiped facing the sun in the east. This means the Holy of Holies faced due west. How many churches to day face East instead of facing West, as the Bible tells us?
When was the idea to worship the Sun on Sunday introduced?
Ge 10:8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.
The first major power upon the earth after the great flood destroyed all the powers and their empires, was Nimrod who founded Babylon. These people worshipped RA, the sun god on Ra-day. Today we would term this Sunday. It’s strange RA is a Hebrew word meaning dysfunctional and there is a Hebrew word for sun, referring to God.
Isa 60:1 ¶ Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.
Mal 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings;
Isa 60:3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.
These verse speak of the similes of light rising, is a function of our Saviour, rising with healing on the corners of his garments (his wings).
EGW: "Jesus and His love should be interwoven with all the education given, as the very best knowledge the students can have. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” If the principal, in his ambitious projects, soars away from the Source of all wisdom and thinks that Bible religion will clip his wings, he will find that he amounts to no more than a soap bubble. Then for your soul’s sake bring the Prince of life into every plan, every organization. You cannot have too much of Jesus or of Scripture history in your school. {5T 587.4}
ROB: “Sadly many seek hospitals for healing rather than their Saviour with healing in His wings, is one example of many clipping the wings of Jesus.
EGW: "Christ is a risen Saviour, and there is healing in His wings. {2TT 399.2
